There are not many players in organized-retail camera business in India. Pixetra, one such chain that opened its first outlet in Kochi in 2006, has already grown to operate six stores in the three major metros of south. "We are looking at another three locations to launch in the next twelve months," says Neelakantan Kushal, Pixetra's General Manager of Retail Sales. "Camera manufacturers worldwide are cheerfully eyeing India's high-disposable-income demographics and are thrilled that young Indians are very aware of quality cameras and accessories. Industry estimates put the Compound Annual Growth Rate at 30% in the last three years and if this trend continues, it is a safe bet that well more than ten lakh cameras will be sold nationwide this year too. "Canon, Nikon, Samsung, Sony, all have major presence in India today and are committed to growing the market while at the same time their principals back home are bent upon improving the product-range offerings and reducing prices. "Pixetra targets amateur and advanced-amateur photo-hobbyists; we put a lot of emphasis to make our customers aware that we do not carry gray goods in our stores. Our unique guarantee? we call it the "Pixetra Promise" - has been a very successful pitch that has won us tremendous customer loyalty" says Mr. Kushal.
